I started blogging in 2017 on a free hosted site called Nouw, this is a Swedsih blog host and to start off with it was a very good platform, however I always knew I wanted to blog in English and have a wider audience than just Sweden. So I did blog in English and Swedish , but Nouw didn’t feel like the right platform for me. So I decided to do my research and I did take the choice of starting with WorPress instead.
Once I decided to go with WordPress.org I researched what host site to use. I looked around at many sites and compared monthly price plans. I finally decided to sign up with Miss Hosting it was very easy to use and to get started. I started with a free WordPress theme and used the very trusted and beloved tool Canva to create graphics to my blog. I was very pleased with the layout and I published my first post. All this I did during my annual leave this summer. Researching and starting of my blog did take some time. And I am glad I did it while I had some time off from my full time job.
“99.9% of great bloggers are not awesome on day 1. Their awesomeness is the accumulation of the value they create over time.” – Darren Rowse
I already had my Instagram account set to a business account and I had my Facebook page. Instagram is one of the social media I use the most. It is where I post all my pictures from recent blog post and where I follow other bloggers and get inspiration from other pictures. However I realised that If I wanted to step up my game and get mote traffic to my blog, I had to sign up to other social media platforms. The ones I use are;
Twitter is the best for spreading the word about your blog post I think, ensure you go and follow RT blogger accounts, then mention them in your tweet and they will re-post your tweet so it reaches out to a wider audience.
I just recently also started to use Facebook groups and with that I also got some of my first comments on my blog. In the blogger groups you can share you content and connect with other bloggers.
I recommend joining;
I also love reading others blogs. And for me the best tool for doing so is Bloglovin, all the blogs I love collected at one place. You follow the blogs you like and get their recent blog post in your feed. Then comment and save the posts. Of course I also signed up my own blog on Bloglovin. Pintrested is yet a forum I have explored fully, I been on there for a while mainly using it for inspiration on what to wear and what to buy. But I have now slowly started to use it to widen my blog community. I can’t say too much about it cause I just started today, so we will see how it goes. Polyvore is a online community for fashion lovers, I was very active a few years ago and Polyvore is actually where I have my most followers. At Polyvore you create fashion collages and publish and share it with others. So its not so much for promoting your blog. But if you are active and mention your blog on your profile or in your collages then you may get some traffic coming from there. It is more of a community and a place to get inspired!
I was happy with my blog, doing my marketing on social media and writing posts. But as I was seeing more and more blogs I realised I had to step it up even further if I wanted to have more traffic! Changing my blog themes was the next step. I purchased a pro blogger template at Pipdig, by far the best thing I ever could have done for my blog! It was such an easy process and in a few seconds I had a very professional looking blog! Even writing a post seemed so much inspiring with a new theme! Now there is few themes to choose from at Pipdig so ensure you pick the one that you think suits your blog and you as a person. Its your blog and you have to love it in order to feel inspired!
“A blog is a great way to figure out what you want to do with yourself because writing regularly is a path to self-discovery.” – Penelope Trunk
I have throughout changed my blog and what I write about. I have difficult updating and writing post as I am also very focused on my career at my every day job. I have now decided to write longer and more article styled blog post where I can be more personal but still write about the things I like. I love writing and I love being able to share my thoughts and views because there is hopefully someone out there who can relate. There are so many fashion bloggers and I can’t keep up with that. So I hope this style of blogging writing articles will inspire me more to write and share more content with my readers.
